Purpose of the catalogue
The HUIWI Public Domain Literature Library provides access to a curated selection of public-domain texts, with editorial notes that help readers understand each work's context, style, and themes. The catalogue is designed for readers of historical and public-domain literature who seek informed guidance without commercial or promotional intent.
Scope and selection
Works are chosen from the Project Gutenberg archive, prioritizing editions that are complete and in the public domain. Selection criteria include literary interest, historical significance, and diversity of authors and periods. The current catalogue includes 99 titles, predominantly mid-20th-century science fiction and speculative fiction.
Source attribution
Every book record identifies the digital source (Project Gutenberg) and, where available, illustrators. No claim is made about the copyright status of the texts beyond their public-domain designation. Readers are encouraged to verify copyright status for their own jurisdiction.
Bibliographic records
Each entry includes title, author(s), publisher, keywords, target-reader field, and a catalogue note. Keywords are drawn from the original book's subject headings. The catalogue note is based on editorial reading of sample excerpts and publicly available information, not on a full reading of every book.
Category assignment
Categories are practical groupings intended to aid navigation, not definitive literary classifications. A book may fit multiple categories; the assigned category reflects the most prominent theme. Category descriptions explain the rationale for grouping and note overlaps.
Editorial reading context
